Juli Goder-Larson
Judge and trainer Juli’s avid interest in the Arabian breed
began as a childhood fascination with horses. It quickly
grew into lessons then owning a horse, where she got her
beginning with the 4-H clubs and open shows. Her love and
enjoyment of showing led her to a successful career as a
professional trainer. At 19, she won her first US National
Championship in Pleasure Driving. Thirty-five years later,
horses and riders trained by Juli are among the top
contenders at Youth, Canadian and US Nationals. In 2002, she
was awarded the Arabian Professional Horseman’s
Association’s top award for trainer of the year in the
Hunter and Show Hack division.
As a regular competitor at major shows, Juli realized
that she could increase her involvement and knowledge
through judging. She learned that judging allowed the
opportunity to help shape the breed and its standards, while
giving something back to the industry. Juli is a Regional
and Nationals accredited judge, making her a member of a
group of judges who may judge regional and National
competitions. In addition to judging in North America, she
has also judged in Brazil and is scheduled to judge in
Australia in 2008, allowing her to expand her expertise
globally.
Juli is involved at the local level by serving on the
board of the Wisconsin Arabian Horse Association for several
years, and heads several of the important breed promotion
activities that they sponsor. She is also a Region 10
delegate and serves on several National committees in AHA.
